It is one thing to review online checklists or read articles that for those who are not sophisticated in either HIPAA terminology or requirements and not tech savvy and another to understand and implement HIPAA compliance. This was a welcome program. As far as I could see, for those with a background in medical records privacy or familiar with working in larger organizations or both, this software covers all the specifics in a very systematic way. On the other hand, there are a number of advantages using HIPAAmate.com for those working in a small or solo practice. As one reviews, assesses and completes a risk analysis of their practice or organization, there are clear explanations. Most of the standard narrative one must use is itemized as a checklist so one does not have to write their own long documents that may or may not cover all the necessary features of protecting ePHI (electronic Patient Health Information). In the process, I became acquainted with the standard terminology as well as the necessary security categories of medical record protection. And where I had difficulty completing a section or understanding the requirements, I could simply call or send an E-Mail to rep and received a response often not just by the next day, but immediately or within hours. I needed help and therefore got the help to sort through how to answer certain questions. In this connection, I thought it would be easier for the person working with the program if there were fields for explaining the answers to questions and to individualize descriptions of their situation and procedures.
