What Is Google Meet?

Google Meet is a free communication solution that allows users to stay in touch with clients and teams globally. The application works in sync with the other Google applications and allows you to present, collaborate and live stream meetings to 100,000 viewers at one time. It also comes as a Chrome extension and can be used across all devices.

Google Meet is finally hitting its stride

Comments: Meet is great for screen-sharing, quick to launch and helps us with quick sidebar discussions. I like how easy it is to launch a Meet, but the recent controls update leave a lot to be desired. Simpler, please, Google.

Pros:

After a window of time when Zoom dominated all of our online interactions to the point that it became a verb, Google Meet is finally coming back. While implementing a lot of good ideas from Zoom (blurred backgrounds, virtual backgrounds, easier sharing tools), Google Meet is finally living up the challenge of Zoom, which innovated very quickly during the pandemic. For a long while, we used Zoom because it was ubiquitous and most customers wanted a Zoom. We're veering back to Meet for sessions, still favoring them over Slack, which we use for internal comms.

Cons:

Meet is suffering from a monstrously bad decision by Google Calendar to not include a Meet by default. If this wasn't done because of an anti-trust lawsuit, the the GCal folks are just foolish. This helped us and encouraged use of Meet, especially since I add a lot of meetings via my Apple Calendar. Meet needs to get back into those defaults, at least as a setting.

I prefer this to other virtual meeting platforms!

Comments: It's been great, I prefer it to all others.

Pros:

It is super easy to use, especially when paired with the other google suite features. You can be chatting in gmail with a colleague and then say, "do you want to just meet virtually about this for a minute?," add a meeting to the chat, and see each other within seconds. It is also so much easier for people to log into than some other virtual meeting platforms (including the big one that starts with z). You don't need to download anything, you just click a link!

Cons:

Sometimes the connection can be a bit fuzzy, and it is hard to tell why. But for the most part this s not an issue.

Not a bad product, no installation required, but not the best

Comments: I noticed Google Meet had issues on some computers where Zoom did not have those issues. Google Meet is nice because it's pretty much free, but in this era it's worth paying for Zoom.

Pros:

I like that Google Meet is free and that nothing has to be installed. However, installing isn't that big of a deal especially if it improves the quality of the video experience. The free part is why I used it as our selected platform before.

Cons:

The video quality freezes up more frequently than Zoom. Does not have captioning as well like Zoom, does not have an easy way to record like Zoom. Overall video quality and the lack of freezing is the most important element, as well as universal compatibility across machines.

Comments: For the new circumstances working from home is the most so Google meet allow the team members to be available and online all the time for any questions and inquiries

Pros:

The sound and video streamed clearly, easy to add and send Invitations to other team members any time during the meetings, easily to present and share the screen

Cons:

Recording features need to be added and implemented for all users for ease of recording the meetings
