You can save your markdown files wherever you'd like, and depending on the devices you're using, you can create your own file syncing solution without paying for Obsidian's subscription (You'll need to pay for sync if you use iOS devices). If you decide to switch to another Markdown app, you can just move your files. I can access synced notes in my Google Drive from my desktop and my (Android) phone. Any vaults that don't need sync or that I'd prefer to keep offline can be stored in any folder on my computer that I choose. > > **Cons**: Having to pay for sync if I want to access my notes on iOS is less than ideal, but I can't be upset about that since Obsidian makes DIY sync possible, and the only reason it doesn't work on iOS is because of how Apple designed that OS.
